[ARTICLES] Understanding Chin Ptosis: Causes, Solutions, and Why Accurate Diagnosis Matters

A chin that appears long or drooping is often considered a simple aesthetic concern. However, in many cases, it is the result of multiple underlying factors rather than just a superficial issue. Visually, a drooping chin can elongate the lower face and affect overall facial balance and impression. Chin ptosis is rarely caused by skin laxity alone. Instead, it often involves a combination of factors such as the length or position of the chin bone, fat accumulation in the chin area, and loosening of the skin and soft tissues. In particular, when the chin bone is long or protrudes downward, it can make the face appear longer or create a heavier impression. As the causes vary, treatment approaches must also be tailored to each individual. When the issue is related to the chin bone structure, surgical procedures such as genioplasty to adjust the length and position of the chin may be required. On the other hand, if soft tissue sagging or fat is the primary cause, less invasive treatmen...

Breast Augmentation: Caution is Crucial from the First Surgery… Prevention of Complications is Key

Breast augmentation is not simply about increasing size—it requires a comprehensive approach that considers shape, symmetry, and skin elasticity in order to achieve a satisfactory outcome. Even when using the same implants, the results can vary significantly depending on the surgeon’s experience and skill, making the choice of clinic and medical staff especially important.

In particular, the main reasons for revision breast surgeries include capsular contracture and rippling. Capsular contracture occurs when the tissue capsule surrounding the implant hardens excessively, causing the breast to become firm and deformed. In severe cases, it can even result in pain. Rippling happens when the skin is too thin or the implant is unsuitable, making the implant visible or palpable beneath the skin. Other common reasons for revision include implant displacement, asymmetry, and implant aging.

Dr. Kwon Soon Beom of Arc Plastic Surgery Clinic stated, “When considering breast augmentation, it’s important to look beyond just the desired size. Factors like skin thickness, chest width, and body shape must be analyzed comprehensively to select the most suitable implant. Regular check-ups and post-operative care are also essential in preventing complications and enhancing patient satisfaction.”

Reckless or poorly considered breast augmentation is also a major cause of revision surgeries. Choosing a clinic solely based on cost—especially one that lacks proper medical credentials—raises the risk of inappropriate implant selection or low surgical precision. Therefore, it is crucial to thoroughly consult with experienced medical professionals to create a personalized surgical plan tailored to the individual's body characteristics.

Additionally, it is important to regularly monitor the condition of the implants after surgery. Choosing a clinic with a structured aftercare system to prevent issues like capsular contracture and rippling is key. If complications do occur, they can often be improved through options like implant replacement, capsule removal, or fat grafting.

Since breast augmentation is not a one-time procedure but one that requires ongoing management, a careful approach from the very first surgery is necessary. The most effective way to minimize complications and achieve desired results is by thoroughly evaluating the surgeon’s skills and the clinic’s post-operative care system.
